Long term care policy may be either comprehensive or non-comprehensive. Most policies sold today are comprehensive policies, which cover care and services in a wide range of settings, for a multitude of needs. Comprehensive coverage typically includes:

Skilled Nursing Facility

The cost of care delivered in the home, including skilled care and personal care(Many policies also cover some level of homemaker services as well as personal services).

Comprehensive policies also cover care at all levels: custodial, intermediate, and skilled.


  • Adult day care health centers

  • Respite care for caregivers

  • Hospice care

  • Assisted living facility care
