1. You may have life insurance needs that a basic life insurance policy can’t meet. That’s where life insurance riders can be beneficial. Riders give you extra coverage that can supplement and customize your life insurance policy. Here are the riders offered by Mutual of Omaha. Rider availability might vary depending on the policy type.

Life Insurance Riders Available

a.

Accidental Death Benefit Rider. Mutual of Omaha’s Accidental Death Benefit rider provides additional death benefits if the policyholder’s death is caused by an accident, such as a car crash. The minimum amount of this benefit is $10,000 and the maximum depends on the policyholder’s age at the time of policy issue. This rider can benefit those with high-risk lifestyles, such as a dangerous job or hobby, who may have a greater chance of dying from an accident rather than from illness or old age.

b.

Additional Insured Term Rider. If you meet the requirements, this rider pays an additional death benefit on the policyholder or on up to four additional individuals named on the policy. The minimum coverage amount is $25,000 and the maximum is twice the base face amount.

c.

Child Life Insurance Rider. This rider is available for dependent children ages 15 days to 20 years. Depending on the life insurance product you choose, coverage ranges from $1,000 to $10,000. It pays out a death benefit for each covered dependent up until their 23rd birthday or until the policyholder reaches age 65.

d.

Chronic Illness Rider. This Mutual of Omaha rider is helpful for policyholders who cannot perform two of six Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as eating or bathing, for no fewer than 90 consecutive days. It requires physician certification and allows you to access your death benefit to pay for chronic illness needs.

e.

Critical Illness Rider. This rider lets you access your own death benefit if you develop a condition confirmed by a physician such as ALS, kidney failure, terminal cancer, major organ failure, heart attack, or stroke.

f.

Disability Rider. Mutual of Omaha’s Disability Income rider provides a monthly benefit if you become disabled. The benefit amount will be the lesser of 1.5% of the issued face amount, $3,000 per month or 60% of your monthly gross income.

g.

Guaranteed Insurability Rider. With this rider, if you have an eligible life event, like marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, or the third policy anniversary and every three years after, you have the option to increase your coverage amount between $10,000 and $50,000.

h.

Lapse Protection Rider. Mutual of Omaha’s Lapse Guard rider is included in all policies for buyers younger than age 76. It helps protect you from policy lapses and the resulting taxes if you borrow or withdraw too much from the policy.

I.

Long Term Care Rider. With this rider, you can use your own death benefit while you’re still living in order to help pay for a nursing home, private nurses or other long-term care expenses. You must be age 30 to 79 at the time your policy is issued to qualify for this benefit.

j.

Overloan Protection Rider. This rider prevents your policy from lapsing if your cash value drops below a certain amount because of policy loans.

k.

Return of Premium Rider. This option provides a refund of all premiums paid if you surrender the policy during the 60-day period following year 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. If you surrender during the 60 days following year 15, you will get a refund of 50% of all premiums paid.
